Connecticut College improves student transportation with Zipcars and upgraded shuttle service

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College today announced a partnership with Zipcar Inc. to provide cars on demand to students, faculty and staff. The college has also contracted with Livery Limited LLC to upgrade the Camel Van shuttle service, which transports students to popular locations in the area, including downtown New London and the Crystal Mall.
"We are very excited to offer improved transportation to our students," Armando Bengochea, dean of the College Community, said. "The New London region has so much to offer and our students have a lot to offer the community. These new transportation options will give Connecticut College students more opportunities to venture off campus."
Through Connecticut College´s partnership with Zipcar, two vehicles - both the Toyota Matrix - are available to members of the campus community age 18 or older. Beginning immediately, students, faculty and staff are able to join Zipcar at Zipcar.com/connecticutcollege and make reservations, 24 hours a day and up to a year in advance. To become a member, a student, faculty member or staff member must complete an online application. Once approved by the company, the member will receive a "Zipcard" that provides automated access to unlock and drive any reserved Zipcar. A separate gas card is in the car´s visor. The company pays for gas, and the expense is built into the rental cost.
For years, Connecticut College has operated a shuttle service to transport students to various locations around the region. This year, Livery Limited LLC is operating the service and providing regular roundtrip shuttle service to designated destinations around the region, primarily on the weekends.
