AIDS Memorial Quilt on display at Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Week of Nov. 10, Connecticut College will host a series of events to raise awareness for AIDS, including a display of the NAMES Project´s AIDS Memorial Quilt.
The AIDS Memorial Quilt was conceived in 1985 by a long-time San Francisco gay rights activist and serves as a memorial to those who have been lost to AIDS. Through displays of the quilt, the NAMES Project Foundation has raised more than $3 million for AIDS service organizations throughout North America. The quilt - with all panels laid end-to-end would be 52.25 miles long.
All of the following events take place in the 1962 Room of Crozier Williams Student Center, unless stated otherwise, and are free and open to the public:
- Monday, Nov. 10 - Opening viewing of the AIDS Memorial Quilt and reception , 4 p.m.; Remembrances and Reflection, 6 p.m.
- Tuesday, Nov. 11 - "Studying the Quilt with Freshman Seminar: ´Glimpses of Truth,´" 9 a.m.; Viewing of AIDS Memorial Quilt, 10:30 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Planned Parenthood Education: Consultation and Information, 1:30 p.m.
- Thursday, Nov. 13 - Viewing of AIDS Memorial Quilt, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Brown Bag Lunch with Doug Moffatt from "Positively Speaking," an HIV/AIDS awareness, education and prevention program of Alliance for Living, noon.
- Friday, Nov. 14 - "The AIDS Quilt in the 21st Century: Historic Relic or Moving Messenger", noon, 1941 Room, Crozier Williams Student Center; Viewing of AIDS Memorial Quilt and Fair Trade Holiday Sale with Flavours of Life and local restaurants, 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
In addition, "AIDS: The Unspoken Struggle of the Nations," a poster display of facts about and inspirations from the many Native American Nations, will be on display all week in the 1962 Room, College Center at Crozier-Williams.
These events are sponsored by several campus departments and organizations in cooperation with community partners.
