Former New York Times Shanghai Bureau Chief to discuss the ´new´ China at Connecticut College Oct. 6

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Howard W. French, an associate professor at Columbia University´s Graduate School of Journalism and former Shanghai Bureau Chief for The New York Times, will give a talk titled, "The Great Transformation: How China Is Changing and What It Means for the World," Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. in the Charles Chu Asian Art Reading Room, Shain Library at Connecticut College.

During his 20 years at The New York Times, French reported from six continents and headed four overseas bureaus, most recently in Shanghai, China. French left The New York Times last month to join the faculty at Columbia. For the past three years, French has also been a weekly columnist on global affairs for The International Herald Tribune.

French´s talk, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Sound Lab Foundation and Friends of the Connecticut College Library.
