Mitchell Erupts with Seven Goals at MIT Tournament

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-The Connecticut College men's water polo team opened the 2008 season at the MIT Invitational Tournament in Cambridge, Mass. The Camels played one varsity match and three exhibitions, posting a 1-3 mark for the weekend. Freshman Sam Mitchell (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) had seven goals in the four matches to lead the Camels. Nick Llewellyn (St. Louis, Mo.) and Connor Matzinger (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) scored five goals apiece in the tournament.
Saturday afternoon, Cal. Baptist earned a 20-3 victory against the Camels. Chris Swanson (New Orleans, La.) had two goals in the match. Connor Matzinger added a single tally. Brendan Kempf (Santa Monica, Calif.) had six saves for the Camels in the setback.
In their second match, the Camels knocked off Boston University in a wild 12-11 contest. Hahn Je (Timonium, Md.) erupted with four scores for the victors. Matzinger scored the trifecta, contributing with a hat-trick for the Camels. Sam Mitchell chipped in with two scores. Ryan Pelham (Stonington, Conn.), James Green (Bay Head, N.J.) and Llewellyn added markers for Connecticut College. Kempf stopped six shots in the Cage.
Sunday, the Camels dropped a close 7-6 contest in their lone NCAA match of the weekend against Washington & Jefferson University. Sam Mitchell had three goals in the defeat. Green, Llewellyn and Matzinger accounted for the other three tallies in the game. Brendan Kempf had seven saves in the match.
Boston College notched a 14-6 victory against the Camels in the final match of the weekend. Nick Llewellyn had three goals in the loss. Sam Mitchell contributed two scores. Hahn Je added a single tally. Kempf had six saves.
