Connecticut College offers free ´Iliad´ performance for school groups

September 04, 2008

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Aquila Theatre Company, the foremost producer of touring classical theatre in the United States, will offer a free school-time performance of Homer's "The Iliad" for school groups Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. in Palmer Auditorium.

Aquila's groundbreaking performance of the Iliad first came to the stage at Lincoln Center in 1999 and has returned several times with performances at Classic Stage Company in New York, NYU and Columbia University. Backstage said of the performance, "If you see only one piece of theatre this year - see Aquila's Iliad."

The free performance has been made possible through a grant from the Bodenwein Public Benevolent Foundation. The performance is free for public school groups in New London County only and groups must book in advance by contacting Robert Richter, director of arts programming (860) 439-5069 or raric@conncoll.edu.
