Toran Tabbed as Assistant Coach for Camel Swimming Program

September 02, 2008

NEW LONDON, Conn.--Alyssa Toran, a 2008 graduate of Kenyon College, has been named the assistant men´s and women´s swimming coach at Connecticut College.

Toran enjoyed a highly successful career with the Kenyon Ladies, asserting her status as one of the top sprint freestylers in Division III Swimming as a six-time NCAA All-American and three-time NCAA Champion in relay events. At the conclusion of her junior year, Toran received the prestigious "Shawn M. Kelly Memorial Award," which is presented to the varsity swimmer who has taken an individual sport to its highest team level by inspired performances as a member of relay teams. Kelly award winners consistently perform at their best when others depend upon them.

When she´s away from the pool, Toran enjoys photography as a hobby. This summer, Toran displayed some of her work as a featured artist on the Fells Point Art Loop in Baltimore.

Toran´s championship experience and competitive drive made her the perfect fit to join the coaching staff of one of the fastest growing programs at the Division III level. Head coach Marc Benvenuti welcomed Toran to the program and looks forward to the upcoming season.

"We are extremely excited to have Alyssa join our program this year," Benvenuti said. "Her championship experience and dominance in the pool will pay dividends for our student athletes, especially as we head into the championship season."
