Connecticut College men´s soccer coach Bill Lessig has released the 2008 season schedule. The Camels kick off the 2008 season Wednesday, September 10 with a non-conference game at Eastern Connecticut State University before returning home to take on NESCAC rival Trinity College for the home opener on Saturday, September 13.

Led by senior co-captains Chris Meinke (Westport, Conn.) and Mike Dodge (Hanover, N.H.) the Camels look to build on the success they had in an exciting finish to the 2007 campaign. Connecticut College notched a 2-2-1 in its final five games on the schedule, qualifying for the NESCAC Championship Tournament in thrilling fashion with an overtime victory in the season finale.

A consistent contributor and distributor in the midfield, Meinke dished out a team-high five assists in his junior season for the Camels. Dodge started each of the team´s 15 games in the backfield and will be relied on for experience and leadership as a stopper in the defensive corps.

Sophomore Trevor Prophet (Nashua, N.H.) netted a team-high six goals in a productive rookie season. Prophet was able to stretch opposing defenses with his athleticism and open field speed and was honored as the team´s rookie of the year. Ted Lane (Portland, Ore.) posted a 1.60 goals against average in goal, coming up with 58 saves in 11 starts.

The Camels will play four of their first six games at home on the Jean Tempel ´65 Green in the month of September. On the 20th, the Camels will visit Tufts in Medford, Mass. for what should be an interesting rematch of the 2007 regular season finale in New London. The Camels eliminated Tufts from the playoff picture on the final Saturday of the 2007 regular season with a thrilling come from behind overtime triumph to reach the playoffs.

The Camels close out the month with three home contests in six days. The Coast Guard visits on the 24th for the "Whale Cup" matchup between neighboring New London institutions. Saturday the 27th, the Camels welcome Williams for a 2:30 p.m. game. Connecticut College closes out the month with a non-conference tilt Tuesday the 30th against the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth.

Connecticut College will play six of its nine conference games in the month of October. The Camels will host the Bowdoin College Polar Bears on the 11th and will meet up with 2007 NCAA Champion Middlebury on the 25th of the month in the final home game of the month.

The Camels will play the regular season finale at Wesleyan University on Halloween Friday October 31. The top eight teams in the league will play in quarterfinal match-ups Sunday, November 2.

The longest standing coach at the College, Lessig is entering his 38th season at the helm of the men´s soccer program. He has compiled a 264-226-40 mark and a .536 winning percentage in 530 games, ranking third among all active Division III coaches in New England with his 264 victories.
