Camels Finish 2nd Overall in 18 Team Field with 76 Points at New England Fours Rowing Championship

WORCESTER, Mass.--The Connecticut College men´s and women´s rowing teams competed in the New England Fours Championship on Lake Quinsigamond Sunday. The Camel women tallied 64 points, earning a share of the title with Simmons College for scoring the most points at the championship. Connecticut College finished second overall in the 18 team field with 76 points.
Under the direction of head coach Eva Kovach, the Camel women qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship, medaling in each of their four divisions.
The women´s varsity four and second varsity four advanced to the grand final by winning their respective heats. In the grand final of the varsity four, the Camels captured the bronze, finishing third with a time of 7:37.828. The Camels won their second bronze medal in the second varsity four with a time of 7:55.769.
In the women´s novice four, the Camels pulled out a nail-biter, edging Bowdoin by .251 seconds at the finish line with a time of 8:03.724 to win the gold medal. The Camels won the second novice four race in decisive fashion, coasting to the victory in 8:22.238 seconds. Amherst College finished 34.615 seconds behind the Camels as the closest competitor in second place.
Head coach Ric Ricci led the Camel men into Sunday´s competition. The men´s varsity four gutted out a third place finish in the petite final. Connecticut College was able to pass Clark near the finish line with a time of 7:07.437 to move into the top three.
Junior Dan Stewart (North Andover, Mass.) is serving as the team captain for the men´s program. Seniors Jess LeClair (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and Tori Hallowell (Wenham, Mass.) are the co-captains for the women´s squad.
