Mulcahy wins 10k for Connecticut College at New England Division III Championship 14 Camels Garner All-New England Honors at Coast Guard
NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College men´s and women´s track and field teams competed in the New England Division III Championship at the Coast Guard Academy. Freshman Shawn Mulcahy (Lebanon, Conn.) paced the Camels with a victory in the 10k, recording the second fastest time in program history with his finish in 31:27.83.
With their 20 point total, the Camel men broke new ground with the highest score in team history at a New England Division III Outdoor Championship. 14 Connecticut College student-athletes garnered All-New England honors in another positive step forward for head coach Ned Bishop´s improving Camels.
Sophomore Alex Samma (Ougadougou, Burkina Faso) placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 46 feet, one and one half inches. In the 1500 meters, senior Keith Drake (Norwich, Vt.) was fifth for the Camels with a time of 3:57.38. Owen Wiseman (Weston, Conn.) set a school record in the pole vault, reaching a height of 13 feet, three and one half inches.
In the women´s championship the Camels notched a pair of seventh place finishes in relay events. In the 4x100 meter relay, Cindy Nielsen (Winnetka, Ill.), Joann O´Brien (Plymouth, Mass.), Asia Bento (Roxbury, Mass.), and Amanda Monnye (Virginia, South Africa) logged a time of 51.48 seconds. Kelsey Taylor (East Hampton, Conn.), Kerry Hand (Wilton, Conn.), Janneke Quick (Winchester, Mass.) and Emily Ricketson (Holliston, Mass.) posted a time of 9:42.07 in the 4x800 meter relay.
Sophomore Margaret Thayer (Littleton, Colo.) was seventh in the long jump, covering a distance of 16 feet, six inches. Senior Laura Nadelberg (New Providence, N.J.) threw the javelin 104 feet, six inches in an eighth place performance.
Alyson Brokaw (Upper Black Eddy, Pa.) scored 3007 points en route to an eighth place finish in the heptathlon.
