Connecticut College Music Department presents eight May concerts

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College Music Department will present eight concerts in the month of May. All concerts will be held in Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center, at Connecticut College, unless otherwise noted. For tickets and information, call (860) 439-2720.
- Connecticut College Percussion Ensemble and New Music Ensemble spring concert, May 1, at 7 p.m. Peter Jarvis, instructor of music, will direct. The concert is free and open to the public.
- Student Flute Recital, May 2 at 2:30 p.m. in Fortune Hall, Cummings Arts Center. The recital will feature performances by Christina Comfort ´08, Rebecca Crovo ´11, Sarah Deckro ´10, Tessa Engel ´11, Katelyn Goll ´11, Danielle Green ´11, Kiara Hwang ´09, Nicole LaPierre ´11, Peter Linton ´09, Carley Spencer ´08, Samantha Streger ´09 and Elizabeth Trainer ´09.
- "Jazz in the Courtyard," the annual spring concert of the Connecticut College Jazz Ensemble, May 2 at 4:15 p.m. The ensemble will be performing works by Miles Davis, George and Ira Gershwin, John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The concert is free and open to the public, and will be held in Castle Court at Connecticut College. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center at Connecticut College.
- "The Hounds of Spring" a Connecticut College Concert Band performance, May 4 at 8 p.m. Gary Buttery, adjunct professor of music, will direct. The performance will include "Tunbridge Fair" by Walter Piston, "An American Elegy" by Frank Ticheli, and "The Hounds of Spring" by Alfred Reed. Tickets are $5 for general admission, $3 for students and seniors.
- Charles Shackford Memorial Student Composer´s Concert, May 7 at 6:30 p.m. Daniel VanHassell, visiting instructor of music, will direct.
- Senior Music Recital, May 8 at 5 p.m. Voice student Zeynep Gundogdu ´08 performs with guest performer Jenna Fankhanel ´08. The performance is free and open to the public and will be held in Harkness Chapel.
- Connecticut College Orchestra Concert, May 8 at 8 p.m. The performance will include works by Mozart, Maurice Ravel and Joseph Haydn and feature the Beethoven Triple Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano. Guest soloists Anthea Kreston, adjunct instructor of music; Jason Duckles, adjunct assistant professor of music; and Rieko Aizawa, adjunct instructor of music, will also perform. Gerald Moshell, visiting professor of music, will conduct. Tickets are $5 for general admission, $3 for students and seniors.
- Senior Student Recital, May 11 at 5 p.m. Double Bass student Brent Thomas ´08 will perform with Corey Lalime ´10, piano. The performance is free and open to the public.
