Connecticut College receives $150k grant to support classroom renovations

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College has received a $150,000 grant from the Booth Ferris Foundation to support the renovation of several classrooms in the college´s Bill Hall.
The grant will help fund approximately $1.5 million of classroom renovations in Bill Hall, a historic building on campus, to include state-of-the-art technology enhancements, as well as new furniture, enhanced lighting and flooring and interior finishes. Additional funding for the project is being provided by a grant from the George I. Alden Trust, as well as gifts from individual donors.
The Bill Hall classroom renovations, which will be completed this summer, are part of the college´s $53 million, 10-year campus renewal plan. The plan is focused on enhancing technology in learning environments, revitalizing student life, boosting energy efficiency and updating staff and faculty office spaces. Last summer, the college completed $9 million in campus renewal renovations, including four classrooms. In all, 46 classrooms will be renovated as part of the campus renewal plan.
The Booth Ferris Foundation was established in 1957 under the wills of Willis H. Booth and his wife, Chancie Ferris Booth. Since that time, the foundation has contributed $247 million to worthy organizations for a variety of charitable purposes.
Among the most selective private liberal arts colleges in the nation, Connecticut College enrolls 1,900 men and women from 41 states, the District of Columbia and 71 countries. The college is known for putting the liberal arts into action through interdisciplinary studies, international programs, funded internships, student-faculty research and service learning. Founded in 1911, the college operates under an 86-year-old honor code. The college is located at 270 Mohegan Ave, New London, about two hours by car from Boston and New York.
