Connecticut College Advances to National Fleet Racing Championship

Connecticut College Advances to National Fleet Racing Championship Camels Finish 4th out of 18 Teams in the ICSA Eastern Semi-Final Championship.
GENEVA, N.Y. - The Connecticut College sailing team has advanced to the National Fleet Racing Championship. The Camels finished fourth out of 18 teams in the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Eastern Semi-Final Championship at Hobart/William Smith to secure a spot at nationals. Connecticut College scored 97 points in the two day regatta, finishing just six points behind the Vermont Catamounts. Boston College won the regional title with 69 points. St. Mary´s of Maryland was the runner up with 82 points.
Senior Dave Meleney (Greenwich, Conn.) skippered the Camels to a seventh place score of 59 points in the A division. Kareem Kablouti (Englewood, N.J.), Dave Marshall (Jamestown, R.I.) and Kelly Arabia (Braintree, Mass.) assisted as the crew. In the B division, junior Charlie Modica (Jupiter, Fla.) led the Camels to a fourth place finish with a score of 38 points. All-New England performer Elizabeth Hawkins (Fairfield, Conn.) and Sarah Shear (Worcester, Mass.) contributed as the crew.
Head coach Jeff Bresnahan was pleased with the team´s performance and is looking forward to the national championship in June.
"We´re really excited to be going to nationals," Bresnahan stated. This weekend´s success was a credit to our entire team. Everyone contributed."
The national championship will be held at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, R.I. from June 2-4. The top nine teams from the eastern and western regional championship will make up the 18 team field of competitors.
