Camel Men and Women Surpass 2007 Point Totals at NESCAC Championship

CLINTON, N.Y.--The Connecticut College men´s and women´s track and field teams competed in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship at Hamilton College. Under the direction of head coach Ned Bishop, both teams improved on their score from last season.
In the men´s championship, the Camels finished 11th with 30 points. Connecticut College was just 19 points out of sixth place in a closely contested battle. Williams College won the championship with 195 points. Tufts University was second with 183 points and Bates tallied 84.5 points for third place.
In the women´s championship, the Camels finished 11th with 10 points. Williams won the championship with a score of 160.5 points. Tufts grabbed second place with 120 points and Middlebury finished third with a score of 119.5.
Sophomore Alex Samma scored in two individual events and a relay to lead the Camel men. Samma recorded the second best high jump for the program in a second place performance, reaching a height of six feet, five inches. Mickey Lenzi was seventh in the high jump (5 feet, 11 1/4 inch). In the triple jump, Samma finished fourth overall, covering a distance of 45 feet, 7 ¾ inches.
Freshman Shawn Mulcahy cruised to a second place finish in the 5K, posting a time of 15:15.78 for Connecticut College. In the 4x100 meter relay, Matt Dyer, Matt Hula, Steve Bright and Samma teamed up for a fourth place finish, logging a time of 44.44 seconds. Dyer, Peter Heinz, Bright and Hula placed seventh in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:27.92.
In the women´s championship, Cindy Nielsen, Joann O´Brien, Asia Bento and Molly Sease set a school record in the 4x100 meter relay, finishing fifth with a time of 50.33 seconds. Margaret Thayer, the NESCAC Women´s Field Performer of the Week, covered a distance of 16 feet, three inches to finish sixth in the long jump for the Camels.
Senior Laura Nadelberg threw the javelin 103 feet, six inches in a seventh place performance for Connecticut College. In the 4x800 meter relay, Kelsey Taylor, Kerry Hand, Chiara Pandolfi and Emily Ricketson topped their previous record in the event by almost 30 seconds with a time of 9:48.73 to finish eighth overall.
Bianca Kissel qualified for the New England Division III Championship in the 400 meter hurdles, posting a time of 1:10.90 for Connecticut College.
