Christopher Leads Camels to Victory with Four Goals and Three Assists Coit Notches 100th Career Point for Camels in Final Home Game
NEW LONDON, Conn. --Sara Christopher (Andover, Mass.) netted four goals and dished out three assists to lead Connecticut College (7-7, 2-6) to a 17-15 victory against Williams College (6-7, 2-6) in NESCAC women´s lacrosse action played on Silfen Field Wednesday afternoon. Junior Paige Pascarelli (Wayne, Pa.) chipped in with four goals and two assist for the Camels.
Senior Jen Robinson (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) netted four goals while classmate Colby Tallman (Norwell, Mass.) provided three goals and an assist in her final home game as a Camel. Lindsey Coit (South Portland, Maine) added three assists for the hosts, reaching a career milestone in the first half with the 100th point of her career.
Tina Nawrocki (Winchster, UK) had four goals and two assists for the Ephs. Sophomore Whitney Thayer (Lancaster, Pa.) added three goals and an assist for the visitors.
The Camels used a 4-0 run midway through the first half to build a 6-4 lead. Pascarelli keyed the spurt with two of her four goals and Tallman tallied to cap the rally with 12:57 to play. The Ephs battled back though, scoring twice in a span of 32 seconds near the end of the first stanza. Whitney Thayer buried a free position with 4:53 to go and the teams were locked in an 8-8 tie at the intermission.
In the second half, the two teams continued to duke it out in this offensive shootout. Tina Nawrocki assisted her sister Julia for a score with 15:45 remaining to force the sixth tie of the day at 12-12. Robinson put the Camels back on top with her fourth goal of the afternoon but the lead was short lived. Julia Nawrocki responded with another score less than a minute later and the teams were tied at 13 with 14:26 remaining.
The Camels would not be denied in their final home game of the season. Junior Emily Mason (Williamstown, Mass.) put the hosts on top to stay with 10:31 remaining. Robinson and Christopher added unassisted scores, extending the lead to three.
Tina Nawrocki provided one final push for the visitors, netting back to back goals that cut the Camel lead to one with 4:21 to go and it was a 16-15 contest.
In the closing moments of regulation, Christopher came up with the biggest play of the day. Christopher was able to deflect an outlet pass from the goalie, inducing a turnover and collecting the ground ball. Tallman was waiting out on the doorstep for Christopher´s entry pass in front of the net. The senior scored her third goal of the day with 27 seconds to play to make it a 17-15 game. The Camels were able to hold on for their second consecutive victory against the Ephs.
Sophomore Jenna Ross (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished with 12 saves for the Camels. Julia Schreiber (Cockeysville, Md.) had 10 stops for the Ephs.
