Hearst Foundation´s $300k grant to support an innovative science curriculum at Connecticut College
April 22, 2008
NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College has received a $300,000 grant from The Hearst Foundation Inc. to establish the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fund for curricular collaboration in mathematics, computer science and the life sciences.
The fund will enable Connecticut College faculty to create a curriculum in the sciences that will provide students training in cutting-edge research methods and prepare them for careers in research, medicine or environmental science.
"Enhancing our already outstanding science curriculum is a top priority for Connecticut College," Dean of the Faculty Roger Brooks said. "With the help of the Hearst Foundation, Connecticut College will be able to offer our students an opportunity for interdisciplinary science research."
The new curriculum focus reflects Connecticut College's institutional commitment to cross-disciplinary teaching, learning and scholarship in the sciences and supports the college's vision of science education, incorporating biology and botany and integrating the college's historic strengths in the environmental sciences and the study of eco systems with computer science and math.
