onStage at Connecticut College presents The Acting Company´s ´Moby Dick Rehearsed´ May 1

April 15, 2008

NEW LONDON, Conn. - onStage at Connecticut College will present The Acting Company´s "Moby Dick Rehearsed," Thursday, May 1, at 8 p.m. in the Palmer Auditorium at Connecticut College.

Orson Welles´ adaptation of the Herman Melville classic alters the setting from a voyage on the Pequod to a mid-19th century American repertory theater and draws parallels between Shakespeare´s King Lear and Captain Ahab by emphasizing the men´s shared unforgiving, vengeance-obsessed nature.

The production is currently on a cross-country tour. It has received a number of glowing reviews, including one in the Wall Street Journal Feb. 8, which said, "The young cast speaks Melville´s lines with the poise of a seasoned ensemble, and [Seth] Duerr´s Ahab (which he previously played Off Broadway) is darkly commanding."

The Acting Company, which won a 2003 Tony Honor for Excellence in Theater Award, has performed more than 100 plays for more than 2 million people across the country and around the world. The New York Times says, "The Acting Company endures as the major touring classical theater in the United States," and The Miami Herald calls the Acting Company "one of this country´s most exciting, creative and impressive theater companies." Tickets are $26, $21, $16 for general admission; $23.50, $19, $14 for seniors and $13, $10.50, $8 for students. For tickets and information, call 860-439-ARTS (2787) or visit: http://onstage.conncoll.edu.
