April 26 Walk for Homelessness to benefit New London´s Homeless Hospitality Center

NEW LONDON, Conn. - As part of a community learning seminar, 10 Connecticut College students are organizing a 1.6 mile walk through New London to educate the public about the issue of homelessness and raise money for the city´s Homeless Hospitality Center.
The walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Congregation (19 Jay St., New London). Participants can register on the day of the walk beginning at 9 a.m. There is a $12 entry donation for individuals who register before April 26; same-day registration is $15 or $12 for students and seniors. Teams of five or more can register for $10 per person, and teams of 10 or more can register for $9 per person. Participants are also encouraged to secure additional sponsors. Free t-shirts will be provided to individuals who secure at least $100 in sponsorship donations by April 15.

New London´s Homeless Hospitality Center offers safety, warmth and hospitality to an average of 50 people every evening at their overnight shelter. During the day, the drop-in center offers homeless individuals practical assistance as they work toward securing permanent housing. At the center, individuals can receive mail, use the Internet and access showers. The overnight shelter and drop-in center also help homeless individuals move toward permanent housing by helping them access existing employment, housing and health services.
