Camel Women Notch Seven Event Victories to Win Coast Guard Invitational Mulcahy Wins 5K in Second Place Finish for Camel Men

NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College women´s track and field team notched seven event victories to win the Coast Guard Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Camels topped the five team field with 212 points. The Coast Guard was second with 144 points and Eastern Connecticut finished third with 109 points. In the men´s invitational, the Camels finished second behind the Coast Guard with 65 points.
Senior Amanda Monnye (Virginia, South Africa) kicked off the outdoor season with a victory in the 100 meter dash, qualifying for the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), New England Division III and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship with a time of 12.81 seconds. In the 100 meter hurdles, Alyson Brokaw (Upper Black Eddy, Pa.) posted a time of 17.02 seconds en route to victory, qualifying for the NESCAC and New England Division III Championship in the process.
Senior Emily Ricketson (Holliston, Mass.) topped the field in the 5k, qualifying for the NESCAC, New England Division III, and ECAC Championship with her time of 18:46.56 for the Camels. Freshman Asia Bento (Roxbury, Mass.) cruised to victory in the 200 meter dash, stamping her ticket to the NESCAC Championship with a time of 27.77 seconds.
In the long jump, sophomore Margaret Thayer (Littleton, Colo.) qualified for the NESCAC Championship with a victorious leap of 15 feet, seven and one quarter of an inch. Senior Laura Nadelberg (New Providence, N.J.) hurled the javelin 102 feet, two inches to top the field, qualifying for the NESCAC and New England Division III Championship in the process.
In the 4x100 meter relay, the Camel foursome of Cindy Nielsen (Winnetka, Ill.), Joann O´Brien (Plymouth, Mass.), Asia Bento and Amanda Monnye cruised to victory, qualifying for the ECAC Championship with a time of 50.91 seconds.
In the men´s invitational, Shawn Mulcahy (Lebanon, Conn.) posted a time of 15:29.51 to win the 5K. Mulcahy qualified for the NESCAC and New England Division III Championship with the victory. In the 100 meter dash, senior Matt Dyer (Westford, Mass.) qualified for the NESCAC Championship with a third place sprint of 11.76 seconds. Junior Matt Hula (Litchfield, Conn.) was third in the 200 meter dash with a NESCAC qualifying time of 23.07 seconds.
The Camels added a pair of third place performances in the relays. In the 4x100 meter relay, Matt Dyer, Matt Hula, Owen Wiseman (Weston, Conn.) and Steve Bright (Raynham, Mass.) recorded a time of 45.67 seconds. Hula, Dyer, Peter Heinz (Evanston, Ill.) and Rob Webbe (Ridgewood, N.J.) logged a time of 3:38.90 in the 4x400 meter relay.
