Senior men´s basketball forward and Captain Charles Stone and sophomore men´s hockey goalie Greg Parker have both been named to the First Team of the 2008 All-New England Small College Athletic Conference for their respective sports.
Stone, one of the most prolific players to wear a Connecticut College uniform, ranks fourth on Connecticut College´s all-time scoring list with 1,380 points. He pulled down 719 rebounds and had 276 assists in his storied career.
"Charles has been everything to the resurgence of our program," Connecticut College head coach Tom Satran said. "He led us in every category and was our emotional leader on and off the court. He has been a pleasure to coach and is a credit to our team and larger campus community."
Stone, who hails from Hackensack, N.J., made an immediate impact on the program and was honored as the NESCAC Co-Rookie of the Year in 2005. This season, in which the Camels recorded 17 wins, Stone ranked near the top of the league in multiple statistical categories, averaging 14.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 5.2 assists. In his free time, Stone works as a volunteer at the Connecticut College Children´s Center and assists with Project KBA (Kids, Books, and Athletics), a grass roots program that promotes literacy and fitness in the New London School system. He will receive his degree in human development this spring.
Parker, meanwhile, played an instrumental role in the hockey team´s late season surge, leading the Camels to a 6-2 record in the month of February. In his last seven games of the season, Parker stopped 204 of 218 shots. Connecticut College finished fifth in league play, topping the .500 mark in the NESCAC standings for the first time in program history.
"Greg Parker´s play has been inspiring, as he gives us the chance to be successful against any opponent on any given night," head coach Jim Ward said. "His competitive nature, skill level and knowledge of the game have a positive impact on every member of our program and he is a significant reason for the success of our program over the past two seasons."
In 2007, Parker was honored as the NESCAC Rookie of the Year and was a second team selection to the All-Conference squad. He led the NESCAC with a .922 save percentage and ranked third in the league with a 2.58 goals against average. The 2006-2007 Camels finished 10-13-2 and 9-9-1 in conference play, earning a playoff berth in the NESCAC Tournament for the first time.
Parker, a resident of Trenton, Ontario, was a three-sport athlete at the Groton School in Groton, Mass., before beginning his Connecticut College career. He is pursuing his degree in economics and American Studies.
