The Connecticut College women´s water polo team will open the 2008 season with a trip to the West Coast. The Camels will meet the University of La Verne Wednesday, March 12 and will play two matches in the Occidental College Invitational March 13.

Sarah Lindsay, a senior from Walnut Creek, California has been named captain of the team and will lead the Camels into competition. Lindsay was honored as the team´s defensive player of the year in 2007 and has worked on her shot in the offseason.

Senior Lauren Brug (Ventura, Calif.) erupted with 25 goals in her junior season, earning second team All-Northern Division honors. Sophomore Phoebe Bakanas (Redding, Conn.) tickled the twine for 21 scores in her rookie season and is an explosive offensive threat. Jordan Kohnstam (Portland, Conn.) should continue to handle the bulk of the goaltending duties for the Camels.

Junior Emma Heishman (Boiling Springs, Pa.) and sophomore Jaki Fishkin (Marblehead, Mass.) will be prominent contributors this spring. Newcomers Annie Denton (Wilton, Conn.) and Leah Hunter (Fulton, N.Y.) have had plenty of time to condition in the pool as members of the women´s swimming and diving team. Ada Spahija (New Trier, Ill.) will look to make an impact in her rookie season.

"We have a small team but we make up for it because everyone plays well together," Lindsay asserted. "Traveling to California will allow us to play some Division III teams and should only improve our team chemistry."

Head coach JJ Addison returns to the sideline for his sixth season as head coach. The Camels will host the Iona College Gaels Friday, April 2 for the team´s home opener. Connecticut College will play five home games in the month of April. The team is also looking forward to hosting the Division 3 Championship on the first weekend in May.
