2008 NESCAC Women's Hockey Championship Tournament First Round Saturday, March 1-1:00 pm Alfond Arena Waterville, Maine #5 Connecticut College (7-13-4) vs. #4 Colby 13-8-3

NEW LONDON, Conn--The Connecticut College women´s ice hockey team will visit Colby College Saturday for the first round of the NESCAC Championship Tournament. Face-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Alfond Arena in Waterville. Tickets are three dollars for adults, one dollar for students with valid identification and children under 10 are admitted free of charge.

This figures to be an even match-up on paper. Each of the previous two meetings this season ended in a tie and the Camels and Mules are 2-2-2 in their last six games.

For the Camels, it all starts with their senior tri-captain Kristen Van Slyke (Phoenix, Ariz.), who has tallied 18 goals, 29 assists and 47 points in her career. Fellow captain Jill Mauer (Millbrook, N.Y.) has potted a career-high nine scores in her senior season and is second on the club with three power play goals. Junior captain Emily Mason (Williamstown, Mass.) has proved to be a prime-time performer and recently provided a huge score at Williams that improved the Camels post-season position.

First-year defender Brigid O´Gorman (Eden, N.Y.) tallied five goals and four assists in her rookie season for the Camels. Celia Medeiros (Portsmouth, R.I.) has six goals, four assists and 10 points for the Camels.

Junior Lauren Mellen (Joliet, Ill.) started 15 of the 24 games in goal during the regular season, finishing with a 2.64 goals against average and a .906 save percentage. Sophomore Sara Christopher (Andover, Mass.) registered a 2.84 goals against average and a .914 save percentage in nine starts this season and has plenty of big-game experience between the pipes.

The Camels and Mules will be playing one of three first round games Saturday. #7 Bowdoin travels to #2 Amherst for a 1:00 p.m. game. #6 Hamilton will visit #3 Trinity for a 3:00 p.m. pairing. The winners of Saturday´s games advance to the final four. Top-ranked Middlebury College will host the semi-finals and the championship game March 8-9.
