Camels Finish Fourth at NESCAC Championship

Murphy, Palmer & Zarba Provisionally Qualify for NCAA Championship Brochu Sets School Record in 50 Yard Breast

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.--The Connecticut College women´s swimming and diving program visited Wesleyan University this weekend for the 2008 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship. The Camels finished fourth with 831 points, matching their highest finish at the conference meet. Three Camels met provisional qualifying times for the 2008 NCAA Championship. Two Connecticut College swimmers will be formally named to the All-NESCAC Squad Tuesday.

Williams College won the championship with 1853 points. Middlebury College finished second with 1481.5 points. Amherst College rounded out the top three with a score of 1428.5.

Sophomore Alyssa Palmer (Sheffield, Mass.) finished third in the 200 yard freestyle, provisionally qualifying for the 2008 NCAA Championship with a time of 1:55.37. Palmer´s third place finish secures her a spot on the All-NESCAC team. In the 100 yard freestyle, Palmer posted a time of 53.27 seconds to finish in sixth place.

Senior co-captain Katelyn Brochu (Smithfield, R.I.) garnered All-NESCAC Honors in the 50 yard breaststroke, setting a school record with a third place time of 30.41 seconds. Kristen Zarba (Beverly, Mass.) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship with a time of 2:09.41 in the 200 yard butterfly. In the 100 yard fly, Zarba secured an eighth place score with a time of 1:00.03. Zarba logged a time of 10:46.51 en route to a seventh place performance in the 1,000 yard freestyle.

Sarah Murphy (Williamsburg, Va.) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship in the 200 yard free, posting a time of 1:55.98 in the lead leg of the 800 yard free relay. Murphy was fifth in the 200 yard butterfly (2:10.86) and placed seventh in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 59.96 seconds. In the 100 yard backstroke, sophomore Maureen Costello (Havertown, Pa.) was seventh with a time of 1:01.37.
