Camels Visit Trinity for NESCAC Quarterfinal Saturday

NESCAC Quarterfinal #7 Connecticut College (17-7) at #2 Trinity College (18-6)

The Connecticut College men´s basketball team will visit Trinity College for a 3:00 p.m. NESCAC quarterfinal match-up in Hartford Saturday afternoon. Head coach Tom Satran´s ´94 Camels earned their 17th victory of the season in the regular season finale February 16, topping Middlebury 93-86. Connecticut College shot a scorching 82% (18-for-22) from the field in the second half, improving to 4-5 in league play.

Tickets will be available at the door for Saturday´s game. General admission tickets are three dollars while students with valid identification can obtain a ticket for a dollar.

Charles Stone (Hackensack, N.J.) was 10-for-13 from the field, adding three assists in the victory at Middlebury. The senior forward has amassed 1,372 points, 710 rebounds and 268 assists in his career for the Camels. Stone needs 14 points to pass Wayne Malinowski ´81 and move into third place on the CC all-time scoring list.

Stone is ranked in the top 10 of six NESCAC statistical categories. He is third in rebounding, assists and blocked shots with 8.3 boards, 5.08 helpers and 1.42 rejections a game. Stone is fourth in scoring with 14.9 points per game and seventh in field goal percentage (.563) and assist/turnover ratio (1.69).

Shavar Bernier (Dover, N.H.), Christian Mosley (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Jeff Young (East Hartford, Conn.) each contributed 18 points for the Camels at Middlebury. Bernier was 4-for-6 from the field and 9-for-10 at the charity stripe. The 6-1 sophomore is averaging 11.1 point and 4.3 rebounds per game. Bernier is second in NESCAC assist/turnover ratio (2.19), third in free-throw percentage (.833) and fifth in steals with 1.67 thefts per game.

Mosley was 6-for-10 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 at the foul line, adding four assists and two steals in the season finale. Mosley is second in NESCAC made threes with 2.54 treys per contest and seventh in three-point field goal percentage, converting 61-of-135 shots (.452) from long distance. He has tallied 703 points, 126 rebounds and 103 assists in his career and is contributing 12.6 points per game for the Camels in a standout senior season. Mosley recently netted a career-high 30 points in a victory against Mitchell, tying the school´s single game record with eight three-pointers. He has canned 140 triples in his career.

Young produced all of his 18 points on the perimeter, shooting a sizzling 67% (6-for-9) from three-point distance at Middlebury. The 6-4 senior leads the NESCAC in threes-made per game with 2.67 triples per contest and is third in three-point field goal percentage, connecting at a 49% clip from beyond the arc. Young is averaging 11 point and 4.2 boards per game. He has tallied 768 points, 332 rebounds and 104 assists in his career, burying 146 threes for the Camels.

Junior guard Billy Karis (Potsdam, N.Y.) is fourth in NESCAC three-point percentage (.488, 42-for-86) and ninth in threes-made, converting 1.83 triples per outing. Karis finished with 11 points at Middlebury, shooting 2-for-4 from beyond the arc while converting 5-of-6 attempts from the charity stripe.

The Camels have converted 236-of-550 three point attempts this season, leading the NESCAC by shooting a 43% clip from beyond the arc.
