Connecticut College 75, Williams College 67 Eight is Enough: Camels Halt Losing Streak at Eight Games Roseen Explodes with 19 Points and 14 Rebounds for Camels

NEW LONDON, Conn.--Cindy Roseen (Wolfeboro, N.H.) exploded with a game-high 19 points and 14 rebounds, leading Connecticut College (11-12, 1-7) to a 75-67 victory against Williams College (16-7, 5-3) in NESCAC women´s basketball action played at Luce Fieldhouse Friday night. Roseen was 6-for-7 from the field, adding six assists for the hosts, carried an eight game losing streak into Friday night´s contest.

Katy Serafin (Carmel, N.Y.) chipped in with 18 points and seven boards, shooting 6-for-8 from the charity stripe. Serafin moved into fifth place on the Camel All-Time Scoring list and has tallied 1,266 points in her career. Serafin has corralled 789 rebounds and needs just three rebounds in Saturday´s season finale to finish fourth on the backboards.

Lindsay Michel (West Haven, Conn.) added 13 points, six rebounds and six assists for the winning side. Kirsten Frazer (Pelham, N.Y.) had seven points and five rebounds for the Camels.

Each of the five starters for Williams reached double figures on the stat-sheet for the visitors. Mika Peterman (Los Altos, Calif.) and Taylor Shea (Allendale, N.J.) netted a team-high 14 points. Shea pulled down 12 boards for the Ephs. Niki Savageau (Marlborough, Mass.) and Chessie Jackson (Goleta, Calif.) each finished with a dozen for Williams, who had won six of their last seven games. Amy Towne (Stamford, Conn.) converted a field goal with 8:24 remaining in the first half and the Camels had built their largest lead at 23-16. But Williams bounced right back, ending the half with a 5-0 run. Peterman put in a runner with just one second remaining and the team´s headed to the intermission locked in a 36-36 tie.

Williams led for most of the second half, carrying as much as a six point advantage. When Peterman converted a pair of freebies with 6:17 to play, the Ephs had a 61-58 lead. The Camels briefly regained the lead on a pair of free throws from Michel at 5:18 mark. But Williams regained a one-point advantage with 4:20 to go on a field goal from Shea and the visitors were clinging to a 65-64 advantage.

Roseen was the difference in this game, winning every loose ball from the opening tip to the final buzzer. After Michel missed a three from the left wing, Roseen hauled in the weak side offensive board and kissed one off the glass, putting the Camels on top to stay at 66-65 with 4:07 to play.

The Camels extended their lead to five points when Michel converted the front end on a two shot foul with 1:49 remaining and it was a 70-65 contest. Savageau buried a jumper for Williams with 61 seconds remaining, cutting the lead to three, 70-67.

On the ensuing possession, Serafin converted in the post for the Camels, pushing the lead back to five. The Camels were able to hold on for the 75-67 victory.
