Connecticut College presents Eve Ensler´s ´Vagina Monologues´ Feb. 22 and 23

Emmy Award-winning actress Hillary B. Smith will perform with student cast Feb. 23
NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College will present Eve Ensler´s "Vagina Monologues," Feb. 22 and Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. in the college´s John C. Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center.
The all-female student cast will be joined by Emmy Award-winning actress Hillary B. Smith, of ABC´s "One Life To Live," who will perform the monologue "I Was There in the Room" during the Saturday night performance.
"I am excited to work with any woman who is willing to fight for voices lost, but it is a great honor to be working with such an esteemed and awarded actress as Mrs. Smith," junior Megan Nashban said.
Other special performers include Blanche Boyd, the college´s Roman S. and Tatiana Weller Professor of English and Writer-in-Residence, who will be performing during the Friday night show; and Mab Segrest, the college´s Fuller-Matthai Professor of Gender and Women´s Studies, who will be performing "Welcome to the Wetlands," who will perform a new monologue both nights to commemorate the Katrina Warriors, an organization dedicated to helping women and girls affected by Katrina.
This year´s production of the "Vagina Monologues" is produced by Nashban and Emily DeClue ´08 and directed by Emily Greenberg ´09, Alison Scaramella ´08 and Jessica Swain ´08.
DeClue said participating in the production is a rewarding experience for all involved. "It´s terrific to be around women who are empowered by their bodies - all sizes, shapes and colors," DeClue said. "We want to create and promote a safe environment to talk about issues specifically pertaining to women´s health and safety."
Tickets are $15 for general admission, and all proceeds will benefit the Women´s Center of Southeastern Connecticut, the newly-established Connecticut College Women´s Center and the Katrina Warriors Network.
