Connecticut College hosting American College Dance Festival Regional Conference Feb. 6 - 9

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College Dance Department is hosting the American College Dance Festival New England Region Conference at Connecticut College Feb. 6 - 9.

More than 550 students, faculty, professional dancers and musicians from colleges and universities all over New England will come to campus for dancing, performances and the opportunity to gather with others from the dance world.

The conference will begin with an opening night performance Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 8 pm in Palmer Auditorium. The performance will include dances by conference judges Thomas DeFrantz, JoAnna Mendl Shaw and Bebe Miller. Richard Move, who will serve as the concert´s Master of Ceremonies, will impersonate the late modern dance pioneer Martha Graham, and Katherine Crockett, a principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company, will be dancing movements from Martha Graham´s repertoire and representing the company.

The conference will conclude with a Gala Performance Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. in Palmer Auditorium. The performance will showcase works selected by the conference panel of judges. Two dances will be included in the national conference in New York City this summer.

The conference is made possible in part by support from Connecticut College´s Center for the Comparative Study of Race and Ethnicity.
