The Connecticut College Arboretum will offer a three-part dinosaur mini-course

New London, Conn. - Registration is now open for "Following in the Footsteps of Dinosaurs: The Age of Dinosaurs in the Connecticut Valley," a three-part mini-course being offered by Connecticut College Arboretum on February 5, 12, and 19 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.. The class which will be taught by Brendan Hanrahan, Editor and Publisher of Road to Discovery Series, Perry Heights Press.

Travel back to the early Age of Dinosaurs using local Connecticut rocs and fossils as your guide. The class will feature a remarkable series of slide show talks which will explore fascinating aspects of the living dinosaur communities that existed in our region in the Early Jurassic Period; fossil evidence that informs us about Connecticut in the ancient past and incredible geologic events that worked to preserve it; and little know, but remarkable tales of local discoveries and the pioneering scientists who made them.

Session 1 will cover the topic "The Real Jurassic Park: Dinosaur communities of the Hartford Basin. Session 2 will cover "Extinction and Evolution: What local rocks reveal about the Rise of the Dinosaurs. Session 3 is entitled "Odd Footprints and Strange Bones: True Tales of Discoverers and Discoveries."

Teachers can earn CEUs as the program will address conceptual themes of the state science standards including Inquiry (how scientific Knowledge is created, Structure and Function (needs of living things, Evolution (Processes responsible for life´s diversity), and The Changing Earth (plate tectonics).

The class will be held in New London Hall, Room 110. The cost of registration is $55 for Arboretum members and $65 for non-members. For further information or to register, call 860-439-5060.
