NESAC Semifinal: #1 Amherst 3, #4 Connecticut College 1

AMHERST, Mass.--Amherst College (27-3) notched its seventh consecutive victory Saturday, defeating Connecticut College (20-8) in the semifinal round of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship Tournament at Lefrak Gymnasium. Game scores were 30-18, 30-26, 25-30, and 30-28 in favor of the hosts. The Lord Jeffs will meet Williams College in the championship game Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
In the fourth and deciding game, the host Lord Jeffs built a 10-4 lead and carried a 23-17 advantage at one point. But the Camels would not go away. Caitlin Tomaska (Solana Beach, Calif.) pulled the visitors to within two with a kill that made it a 26-24 game. After Amherst countered with a point, Tomaska buried another kill to make it 27-25 contest. Junior Emma Matthieson (Santa Barbara, Calif.) pulled the Camels to within one with a kill of her own and it was a 27-26 game. But Amherst was able to score the next two points and hold on for the 30-28 victory.
Sophomore libero Maddy Baldwin (Los Altos, Calif.) had 12 digs and three aces for the Camels. Caitlin Tomaska contributed 18 digs, eight kills and one ace. Sophomore Lauren Wise (Oakton, Va.) had 12 kills.
Meg Christman (Wilmington, Del.) finished with 12 kills and four blocks for Connecticut College. Marissa DeMais (Hillsdale, N.J.) dished out 42 assists and added six blocks in the match. Jenna Tjossem (Vail, Colo.) tallied seven kills and three blocks.
