NESCAC Championship Tournament-First Round: Middlebury 3, Connecticut College 0

MIDDLEBURY, Vermont -- Middlebury College (13-2) advanced to the NESCAC semifinal round with a 3-0 win over Connecticut College (3-9-3) Sunday afternoon. The Camels reached the NESCAC Championship Tournament for the first time since the 2000 season with a dramatic 2-1 overtime victory against Tufts University Saturday. Casey Ftorek tallied two goals and one assist for the Panthers. Brian Bush made two saves en route to his seventh shutout of the season. Ted Lane had one save for Connecticut College. Sophomore net-minder Alex Martland played the final 10 minutes of regulation in relief duty.
Middlebury took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute of action. Baer Fisher set up the goal, leading Ftorek for a one-on-one score. The Panthers doubled their lead just 2:37 before the intermission. Carson Cornbrooks scored on an entry pass from Ftorek and it was a 2-0 Middlebury lead at the break.
The Panthers added a third score in the 48th minute when Ftorek converted a penalty kick. The hosts were able to keep the Camels off the scoreboard, holding on for the 3-0 triumph.
