Camels Win with Lynne-Stillings Scores Game Winner in OT

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Connecticut College junior back Lynne Stillings (Cumberland, Maine) scored the first goal of her career 7:22 into overtime, propelling the hosts to a 3-2 victory against Wellesley College (5-2) in a field hockey match-up played on the Artificial Turf at Silfen Field. Abby Hine (Madison, Conn.) tallied a goal and an assist. Sophomore net-minder Steph Quinn (Arlington, Mass.) recorded 10 of her 16 saves in a magnificent performance between the pipes.

Callie Lekas (Brewster, Mass.) accounted for both of Wellesley's scores. Junior Emily Hewitt (Alexandria, Va.) finished with seven saves in goal for the Blue.

Junior Jenny Roe (Bethesda, Md.) cruised down the right sideline in an end to rush for a score that made it a 2-0 game with 3:13 left in the half. But Wellesley cut the lead in half on the first of Lekas' two scores with 1:48 left and it was a 2-1 contest at the intermission.

With 13:25 remaining, Lekas put in the equalizer from point blank range, finishing on a pass from from Katie Sang (Cupertino, Calif.). Wellesley continued to apply heavy pressure. With 11:30 remaining in regulation, Quinn literally saved the day, stuffing Madeline Block (Saratoga, Calif.) in a one-on-one situation. Block recovered her own shot but Quinn thwarted the second attempt, preserving the 2-2 tie.

In the extra session the Camels cashed in on their opportunity. Abby Hine played the ball across the middle to Stillings for the one-timer. Three of the Camels' four consecutive victories against Wellesley have been won in overtime.
