NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College Theater Department will present "Where We´re Coming From," a play written by students about experiences of race, ethnicity and difference, in the College´s Tansill Theater from Oct. 4 - 7, 2007.
Performances are scheduled Oct. 4 and 5 at 8 p.m., Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Oct. 7 at 2 p.m.
"Where We´re Coming From," co-directed by Leah Lowe, associate professor of theater, and Nancy Hoffman, visiting assistant professor of theater, is part of the Center for Comparative Study of Race and Ethnicity´s yearlong festival of Race in the Arts.
The performance will explore several questions, including: What does it mean to be a student of color at Connecticut College? What does it mean to be a white student at the College? Are these experiences different than they have been in the past? And what can we learn about society today from these stories?
The 11-member student ensemble has been collaboratively generating text, movement, music and images that synthesize stories from the past and present. The ensemble´s research has included interviews with faculty, fellow students and several deans, as well as articles from the college archives.
Tickets are $8 for general admission, $6 for students and seniors. For more information, contact the Connecticut College theater department at (860) 439-2605.
