2007 Season Preview

Heather Stanish ยด08 has Been one of the Most Consistent Performers for Head Coach Ned Bishop-The Camels Open the 2007 Season Saturday, September 8 with the Smith College Invitational in Northampton, Mass.

August 23, 2007

The Camels have been among the strongest and deepest teams in New England over the past three seasons and have made measurable improvement each year. The team climbed to a sixth-place finish in the NESCAC Championship last fall and went on to finish ninth at the New England Division III Championship.

With last season's top ten runners all returning, a spot among the top five teams in the region appears to be well within reach.

Leading the way will be senior captains Heather Stanish (Guilford, Conn.), Elizabeth Claise (Lexington, Mass.), Emily Ricketson (Holliston, Mass.) and Janneke Quick (Winchester, Mass.). Stanish and Claise have taken regular turns as the #1 runner for the team throughout their careers, and Ricketson and Quick joined them as four of the team's top five finishers in last fall's final championship race. Joining this experienced group up front will be juniors Jill Sergi (Franklin, Mass.) and Jessamyn Cox (Rutland, Mass.), both of whom have also finished first for the team on a number of occasions.

Juniors Melissa Lacey (Amherst, Mass.), Caitrin Herdic (Champlain, N.Y.) and Kerry Hand (Wilton, Conn.) and sophomore Colleen MacPhee (Maplewood, N.J.) also return from the 2006 top ten. Freshman Faye McKenna (Amston, Conn.) and junior Tara Morazzini (Cumberland, Maine) are expected to challenge for spots in the varsity lineup. Juniors Holly Cain (Norfolk, Mass.) and Allison Bell (Far Hills, N.J.), sophomore Sarah Petit (Grosse Pointe, Mich.), and freshmen Hayley Sullivan (East Greenwich, R.I.), Eliza Leahy (Needham, Mass.)and Kelsey Taylor (East Hampton, Conn.) will join this strong group of lead runners to create exceptional team depth. Approximately 35 runners are expected to be members of the 2007 squad.

The Camels will open the season with three straight invitational meets, concluding with the Connecticut College Invitational. The All-New England Championship at Franklin Park in Boston in early October offers excellent competition against a mix of Division I, II and III teams. The top 12 runners will then travel to Wisconsin for the UW-La Crosse Invitational featuring top Division III teams from all over the country. That experience will help prepare the team for the important NESCAC Championship and the New England Division III Championship meet which will determine the NCAA qualifiers.

The Camels are looking forward to the home course advantage in that final meet as they strive to reach their goal of advancing to the NCAA Division III Championship.
