Richard said the Aquarium worked with Dr. Todd Robeck from Sea World to artificially inseminate one of the Aquarium´s female belugas, Kela, making her the first beluga in the world to be artificially inseminated. "Although pregnancy did not result, we have learned a great deal about beluga reproduction," Richard said.
Richard´s talk will focus on the training process, which requires the animals be trained to participate in ultrasound examinations, blood draws and urine collection, which allows the Aquarium´s belugas to take part in cutting-edge research on beluga reproduction.
