Chinese calligraphy lecture, demonstration Nov. 8

For immediate release - Nov. 2, 2006 Contact: Amy Sullivan (860) 439-2526; amy.sullivan@conncoll.edu Chinese Calligraphy lecture, demonstration to take place at Connecticut College on Nov. 8 NEW LONDON, Conn. - In honor of the opening of the exhibition "The Painted Word: Calligraphy in the Chu-Griffis Art Collection," Qianshen Bai, an associate professor of art history at Boston University, will give a lecture and demonstration of Chinese calligraphy at 4 p.m. on Nov. 8 in the Charles Chu Asian Art Reading Room in the Shain Library at Connecticut College.
The calligraphy paintings on display are part of the permanent Chu-Griffis Art Collection. They are representative of the different styles of Chinese calligraphy, and include several works by Bai.
Bai is the author of "Fu Shan's World: The Transformation of Chinese Calligraphy in the Seventeenth Century," and a coauthor of several books, including, "In Pursuit of Heavenly Harmony: Paintings and Calligraphy by Bada Shanren from the Estate of Want Fangyu and Sum Wai."
This event is free and open to the public.
