OnStage at Connecticut College presents David Dorfman Dance's 'underground' on Oct. 28
NEW LONDON, Conn. - David Dorfman Dance will perform its newest work, "underground," at 8 p.m. in Palmer Auditorium at Connecticut College on Oct. 28.
Using the 1960s as a starting point, "underground" explores the principles of political activism and the activities of the Weather Underground - a far-left student activist group in the 1960s - asking the questions: When can activism become terrorism, or vice versa, and is condoning and endorsing killing ever justified? The (Durham, N.C.) News and Observer writes, " 'underground' is a jaw-dropping spectacle."
Since its founding in 1985, David Dorfman Dance has performed extensively in New York City and throughout North and South America, Great Britain, and Europe. Noted for its exuberant, gorgeous and "delightfully oddball" style, the company has a history of collaboration with contemporary composers and visual artists, and its performances often feature live music. David Dorfman, William Meredith Associate Professor of Dance at Connecticut College, and the company's dancers and artistic collaborators have been honored with seven New York Dance and Performance ("Bessie") Awards.
Tickets are $26, 21, 16; seniors $23.50, 19, 14; students $13, 10.50, 8. For tickets and information, call (860) 439-ARTS (2787) or visit http://onstage.conncoll.edu.
