There are lots of ways to explore New London and the surrounding region. Here are just a few of the options available to help you get where you want to go:

Camel Van

The Camel Van, a free shuttle service, provides transportation to downtown New London and to retail and entertainment venues in the area. Stops include New London’s Union Station, the New London Mall, Crystal Mall, Target, Waterford Commons, Waterford Regal Cinemas and Walmart. The van operates Thursday through Sunday throughout the academic year.

The Flying Camel Airport Shuttle

The College has partnered with a local transportation company to offer students a discounted fare for shuttle transportation between T.F. Green Airport (Warwick, R.I.) and JFK Airport (New York) and the College.

During breaks

The shuttle service is also offered during Thanksgiving, winter, spring and summer breaks. More information will be posted. 

Bicycles

Bikes are a great way to get around campus and the region. Bike racks are available in many locations on campus; however you will want to bring your own locking devices. We also encourage you to register your bicycle with Campus Safety at no cost. Bikes can be stored in some residence halls; however motorbikes are not permitted in the residences.

Bus service

The SEAT Bus is a convenient and affordable way to get off campus and travel to some of Greater New London’s most popular destinations, including downtown, the train station, New London Shopping Center, Crystal Mall, Waterford Commons, Ocean Beach and Mohegan Sun Casino.

Campus bus stop

The Connecticut College bus stop is located on Williams Street, across from the Williams Street campus entrance, just south of the Arboretum entrance.

Route

From the campus bus stop, the bus goes through Hodges Square and eventually arrives at the SEAT Bus Transportation Center in downtown New London, next to the train station (takes about 10 minutes.) If your final destination is not downtown, you can transfer for free to one of the other buses -- Bus 12, Bus 13, Bus 14 or Bus 15 -- that go to different locations throughout New London and Waterford.

Fare

Fare for one-way is $1.50. Exact change, passes or tickets are all acceptable forms of payment; bus operators will not make change.

Zipcar for local or longer treks

We have three Zipcars on campus that are available for rent to members of the campus community age 18 or older. Students, faculty and staff are able to join Zipcar at Zipcar.com/connecticutcollege and make reservations 24 hours a day and up to a year in advance.

Trains

New London is served by Amtrak, with convenient rail service to and from New York; Boston; Providence; Washington, D.C. and beyond. New London's Union Station at 27 Water Street is just a 10-minute taxi or bus ride (approx. $7-$10) from the College. Taxis are available in front of the station. (See "Taxis" section below.)

‌Cars on campus

You may find that you don’t need a car at Connecticut College. There are numerous transportation alternatives, including Zipcar, the Camel Van shuttle, SEAT (the local city bus) and several taxi services. Many students also use bicycles to get around campus and off. If you still think you’ll need to bring a car to campus, learn more about motor vehicle registration and parking rules.

Taxi services

Yellow Cab’s area of service is the greater New London/Groton area, and they also provide transportation to Bradley International Airport and T.F. Green Airport. They offer a wide range of opportunities to request service, including an app for both iPhone and Android devices that tracks your taxi in real time using GPS. Find the app in iTunes or the Google Play Store by searching for "Yellow Cab of New London." You can also call 860-443-4321 for service.

Camel Cash can be used as payment for any services Yellow Cab provides. Simply present your Camel Card to the driver at the time of service. Regardless of your Camel Cash balance, transportation services will not be denied to any Connecticut College student with a valid Camel Card. If your Camel Cash account balance can't cover the payment, your account could go into a negative balance and you will be requested to make a deposit. If your account is in a negative balance for more than 30 days, payment could be charged to your College student account.
