New Student Prevention Courses

As part of our comprehensive substance abuse prevention program, all incoming students are required to complete AlcoholWise and MarijuanaWise before arriving on campus.

We know from the research that alcohol and other drug use have a negative effect on GPA and we want to provide the tools you may need to make well-informed decisions for a successful Connecticut College experience. AlcoholWise will empower you to think critically about the role of alcohol and the decisions you will make on campus. Students will also benefit from MarijuanaWise and have a better understanding of marijuana, its impact on the brain, and learning.

CHOICES - Alcohol and Other Drug Education Workshop

CHOICES is a risk reduction and substance abuse prevention program for college students. Students build on their knowledge base and are given the opportunity to reflect on their personal choices and goals through reflective writing assignments. The CHOICES program is presented in a non-confrontational, non-judgmental manner that enables students to make informed decisions about alcohol consumption and substance use. The program is facilitated by the director of Wellbeing and Health Promotion.

BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students)

These one-on-one meetings are designed to work students to explore their relationship with substances, help the student find strategies to decrease risky behaviors, and build on their inherent strengths, and set goals for a successful college career.
