Letter from President Higdon to the Class of 1992

Dear Class of 1992:

June is approaching and your 15th Reunion is just around the corner. While I haven't met most of you, I wanted to write to the members of the class of '92, introduce myself personally, and invite you back to campus on June 1 - 3. I am so looking forward to getting to know you and talking to you about what we've been doing to move the school forward since I have been President.

You may have already heard that I'm coming to Conn after two prior Presidencies - one at Babson College and one at the College of Charleston. Actually, if you count the Darden Business School at Virginia, this is the fourth institution where I've been at the helm. What has drawn me to Connecticut College? Mainly, I'm drawn by the opportunity to lead a great American liberal arts college. Like many of you, I genuinely believe that a liberal arts education is one of the finest and most precious gifts that we can receive, or as parents, provide for our children. With your support, I am hopeful that during my time here, Connecticut College will grow in national and international recognition as one of this country's unique and best resources.

On top of the many invitations you have received to return to Conn for your 15th reunion, I would like to personally add mine. It has never been more important than now, at this time of transition, that the institution that binds us receives your support and involvement. We have already embarked on an important period in Conn's history, where there will be much of the growth and leadership that you played such a vital role in over a decade ago. With your input, this period in our history can be more remarkable.

One of the things I have learned quickly upon coming to Conn, is the depth of spirit and emotion that alumni like yourself feel for this institution. An attachment to Conn is not a dry, intellectual thing. It is full of feeling - feeling for friendships formed that last a lifetime, feelings for professors who made a momentous change in your life, feelings for a place that is one of the more special and beautiful campuses in America, feelings based on memories of challenges faced and tackled, opportunities recognized and seized. When you reconnect with the institution, you help me and all of us at Conn draw strength from your positive spirit.

I look forward to meeting you personally in June.

Sincerely,
Leo I. Higdon, Jr.
President

15th Reunion Gift Update

Please join us in giving back this year in honor of our 15th Reunion by making a gift through the Annual Fund at http://reuniongiving.conncoll.edu/. This year our class has a special focus for our 15th Reunion Gift: we are raising money to directly support the College's nationally recognized internship program. As you may have heard, the College provides generous stipends of $3,000 to students who wish to pursue internships related to their career fields. These paid-internships open doors and make opportunities possible. So whether you give $500, $100 or $25 - your gift will make a difference in the lives of current students who are counting on our support. Believe it.
