Connecticut College Celebrates Black History Month

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College is hosting a number of events, including speakers, presentations and a photo exhibit, in celebration of Black History Month.

All events are free and open to the public and will be held on the Connecticut College campus.

Events include:

- Black History Month Photo Exhibit - a display of images from the Civil Rights Movement to the present. An opening ceremony will be held Feb. 1 at 4 p.m. in Unity House. The exhibit will remain on display through February.

- Black History Month Convocation - a kickoff celebration with a reception to follow, Feb. 4 at 4 p.m. in Harkness Chapel.

- Children´s author Faith Ringgold, best known for her painted story quilts, will share a multi-media presentation about 50 years of her work and Black History, Feb. 13 at 4:30 p.m. in Palmer Auditorium.

- Panel Discussion on bi-racial and multi-racial identity. A panel of students, staff and faculty will discuss the unique issues faced by those with multi-racial backgrounds, Feb. 20 at 4:30 p.m. in Unity House.

Among the most selective private liberal arts colleges in the nation, Connecticut College enrolls 1,900 men and women from 41 states, the District of Columbia and 42 countries.
