College to hold public memorial service for Harold Juli, professor of anthropology, on April 22

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College will hold a public memorial service for Harold Juli, professor of anthropology, on Sunday, April 22, 2007. The service will take place in the college´s Harkness Chapel at 1 p.m.

Juli, who died Feb. 10, had been a professor at the college since 1974, and served as associate dean of the faculty from 1987 to 1990. He was dedicated to research and teaching, which he continued to do despite his illness.

Juli specialized in archeology and worked on archeological digs in New England, Israel, Peru, and Alaska. He considered the construction of the archaeological laboratory in Winthrop Hall at the college as one of his most significant institutional achievements.

He was beloved by his colleagues, students and the community.

The memorial service will include prayers, readings, folk music and personal reflections from family, faculty, alumni and current students. Following the service, there will be a reception in the Hood Dining Room in the Blaustein Humanities Center.
