As a leading independent liberal arts college, Connecticut College holds that broad training in the arts, letters, natural sciences and social sciences provides today's undergraduates with the most effective preparation for productive participation in modern society. It therefore requires each student to complete a program of general requirements. In addition to general education requirements, students must select a major area of concentration established within traditional departmental frameworks. Students, however, are allowed great flexibility when designing their major and may choose their own interdisciplinary major programs with the council of faculty advisers as well as the approval of the Committee on Student-Designed Interdisciplinary Majors and Minors.
