Employees of Connecticut College are covered by Workers Compensation insurance purchased by the College. In the event of a work
related injury or illness, the insurance provides for medical care and income payments in accordance with State regulations. Connecticut College will pay, without prejudice, up to three full days of pay following the accident, including the day of the accident. Any claim for lost earnings beyond three days or claims for wages from other employment will be decided by and, if appropriate, paid by the workers compensation carrier directly to the affected employee. All lost earning claims must be accompanied by documentation from the preferred provider/treating physician. If you return to work from a work injury and then go out again for the same injury, you must present additional documentation in order to be eligible for payment through the workers compensation insurance. Sick and vacation time cease to accrue during time absent for a work-related injury or illness. All work-related accidents must be reported to the supervisor or substitute supervisor within 24 hours of the accident. The necessary forms must be completed at that time and forwarded to the Office of the Manager of Occupational Health immediately. Failure to submit reports promptly may result in loss or delayed payments of benefits.
An employee may remain on the group medical and dental plan through the College for a period of up to one year by paying the employee's share of the appropriate insurance premium on a monthly basis.
