onStage at Connecticut College presents Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company´s ´Chapel/Chapter´ Jan. 26

NEW LONDON, Conn. - onStage at Connecticut College is proud to present the 2007 Bessie-award winning "Chapel/Chapter," by the internationally renowned Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. in the Palmer Auditorium at Connecticut College.
The performance with be followed by a post-performance discussion in Palmer. Prior to the performance, at 5 p.m., there will be a panel discussion with company co-founder/ choreographer Bill T. Jones; David Dorfman, the college's William Meredith Associate Professor of Dance; and David Kyuman Kim, assistant professor of religious studies and director of the college's Center for the Comparative Study of Race and Ethnicity, in the John C. Evans Hall, Cummings Arts Center, adjacent to Palmer Auditorium.
"Chapel/Chapter" explores tensions between the sacred and the secular through a hyper-physical performance that incorporates live music, song and dialogue. The company's resident composer and musical director, Daniel Bernard Roumain, is known for blending funk, rock, hip-hop and classical music to create a unique fusion of original pieces with traditional Gospel, plainsong chant and folk music.
John Rockwell of the New York Times called the performance "a riveting experience" and "a brilliant blend of abstraction and realistic evocation."
Founded in 1982, the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company has performed more than 100 works in more than 200 cities in 30 countries. Co-founder Bill T. Jones has been honored with numerous awards for his work, including the 2007 Tony Award for Best Choreography for "Spring Awakening," the 2005 Samuel H. Scripps American Dance Festival Award for Lifetime Achievement, a MacArthur "Genius" Award and several New York Dance and Performance ("Bessie") Awards. In 2000, The Dance in Heritage Coalition named him "An Irreplaceable Dance Treasure."
Tickets are $28, 24, 20; seniors: $25, 21.50, 18; students: $14, 12, 10.
