Dance Department performances Dec. 9 and 10

For immediate release - Nov. 30, 2005 Contact: Charlene Davenport (860) 439-2526; charlene.davenport@conncoll.edu   Connecticut College Dance Department performances on Dec. 9 and 10   NEW LONDON, Conn. - A performance of "Geppetto In The Fjords Or Semper Fi Kai" by guest choreographer Doug Elkins will highlight the Connecticut College Dance Department Concert on Friday, Dec. 9, and Saturday, Dec. 10, at 8 p.m. in Palmer Auditorium. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $6 for students and seniors. For tickets and more information call 860-439-ARTS.

Also included in the program will be a re-staging of Doug Varone's "Of the Earth Far Below" by guest choreographer Eddie Taketa. This work was made possible by a grant from The National College Choreography Initiative (NCCI), a Leadership Initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, administered by Dance/USA, the national service organization for professional dance.

Doug Elkins maintains a busy teaching and touring schedule with recent travels to London, Amsterdam, and the Lower East Side of Manhattan. This past winter, he choreographed a new production of "Peter and The Wolf," produced by In The Wings of Belgium, and worked on "CITY" for the Holland 2001 Festival. His most recent works for the Doug Elkins Dance Company include "The Look of Love" and "The House Project."

Eddie Taketa, dancing professionally since 1982, has performed with the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, Murray Louis Dance Company, Nikolais Dance Theatre, as well as others. He has taught at numerous universities, festivals and studios throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia. Since 1995, he has been teaching and choreographing as Guest Artist in Dance at Connecticut College. Taketa has been a member of Doug Varone and Dancers since 1994.

Connecticut College faculty choreographers include David Dorfman, associate professor of dance; Heidi Henderson, assistant professor of dance; and Lan-Lan Wang, professor of dance. Student choreographers will include senior Virginia Fuller and freshman Zenas Hutcheson.
